Types of Server (HL only)
A server responds to requests made by clients, sending resources such as webpages and related data (eg images, video) to the client.
Servers are generally more powerful and robust than clients. They also need to be incredibly reliable.
We need to understand the purpose of each of the following servers:
- DNS Server
- File server
- Mail server
- DHCP server
- Web server
- Proxy server
According to the syllabus, for each server we need to consider:
- functionality
- scalability
- reliability (eg think redundancy)
- security
