What is the Coronavirus?
Coronaviruses are a large group of viruses (yes, there are more than just Covid-19). They consist of a core of genetic material which is surrounded by a lipid envelope and protien spikes.
There are different types of coronaviruses which cause illness in both humans and animals.
They can cause respiratory infections varying from the common cold to more severe illnesses such as:
Where did it Come From?
Coronaviruses are known to circulate in animals.
Sometimes, the virus can be spread to humans. This is called a 'Spill Over'. A spill over can happen for many different reasons. For example, there could be a mutation of the virus or increased contact between animals and humans.
For example, MERS-Cov can be transmitted by camels and SARS-Cov by civet cats. As for Covid-19, there's evidence that suggests that the virus originated from horseshoe bats.
How Does it Spread?
Covid-19 can spread from person to person through droplets when an infected person releases those droplets (for example through coughing, sneezing or talking), close to another person.
Another way it could spread is when those droplets land on objects, when another person touches them then touches their eyes, nose, or mouth.
What are the Sypmtoms
The incubation period (the time taken from exposure to the virus to the time you develop the symptoms) is ususally about 5-6 days. However, it can range from 1-14 days.
The symptoms can vary from mild to severe. However, some people may not develop any symptoms at all (asymptomatic people).
The most common symptoms include:
Some patients reported:
In more severe cases, people might experience:
Around 85% of people with Covid-19 recover without needing special special treatment.
Who is at Risk?
Well, everyone is at risk, it's just some people have a higher chance of catching it.
Older people are notably more at risk along with people who have underlying health problems. This can include chronic respiratory disease, obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, or cancer

If you feel sick, make sure you go visit a doctor. It's better to know earlier than later, for your saftey and the saftey of those around you.
Stay away from crouded places, as getting in contact with people will only help the virus spread at a faster rate.
Follow the rules set by the government, they are there for a reason
Stay at home! Yes, it's boring and yes, it will drive you crazy, but the more you stay at home, the sooner we will all be free agian.
