Welcome to this introduction to Adobe Illustrator. It is a place where beginners can come and find out how to kick start their new career as a Digital Graphic Designer. Professional illustrators use this powerful program as well as people who do it unpaid... for fun! Illustrators are masters of creating different shapes, organising those shapes and then coloring and shading those shapes. These 4 steps may give you an idea of this:

Getting started

Open Illustrator and see if you can follow the steps in the tutorial to create a cool camera in Illustrator. This is good for absolute beginners!

Projects!

You are now ready for your creative challenge! You can work individually or as a team.

Option 1

Create an infographic.

It does not have to be based on data analysis. However, it should be informative and have a definite audience.

Option 2

Is there a subject that you have been studying recently that is interesting or difficult or fun or anything!? Create an infographic poster about the topic. Remember to make it visually appealing eg cute characters, bold colors, clear text, nice layout.

Option 3

Data analysis - grab some free data -for example from kaggle - and use your spreadsheet skills to create a summary data set. In turn, use your summary data to create an engaging infographic.

This is a project completed by a team of 3 Grade 11 and 12 students. They liased with the school's Health teacher. After discussing an idea, they assigned roles and slowly contributed designs for the final poster layout. It took about 16 50-minute periods to complete.

This is a project completed by a Grade 10 student. She took time to sketch out her idea and then started to develop each area of her design. It took about 18 50-minute periods to complete.

This is a project completed by a Grade 8 student. He focused on a printable project, a Lunar New Year card.

This is a project completed by 2 Grade 8 students. Their project was to create a manga concept scene with a traditional Vietnamese focus.

This is a project completed by a Grade 10 student. He had to research a topic and analyse data. This was then presented visually as an infographic.
